Slota, Anna (1851 - 11 OCT 1931)

Mrs. Anna Slota passed away on Sunday, Oct. 11th, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ignatz Szymanski. She had attained the age of eighty years. Anna Gulik was born in Austria, Poland, in 1851, where she grew to womanhood. At the age of 24 she was united in marriage to Domian Slota. In the year of 1891 they emigrated to Winnipeg, Canada, where they resided for a year, from whence they came to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), and since made her home here. To this union six children were born, all of whom survive to mourn her loss. They are three sons, John Slota of Thorp; Jos. And Bernard of Gilman; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Turowski of Gilman; Mrs. Anna Morgan of Owen, and Mrs. Helen Szymanski of Thorp. There are twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death twenty-one years ago.

Mrs. Slota, with her family, came to Clark County, locating on a farm two miles east of Thorp, which was her home up to the time of her death, and carved a home for themselves out of utter wilderness. Mrs. Slota being among the first settlers in this community has had a very large circle of friends which was evidenced at the day of her funeral.

She was a kindly mother, a good neighbor and will be missed by many. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Society and a devout member of St. Hedwig’s congregation. The pallbearers were: John Wnek, Harry Okonski, Vincent Grzgzewski, John Novabylski, Mike Przybylski and Chas. Sikorski.
