Kapellen, Margaret (12 Jan. 1863 - 23 Aug. 1940)

Mrs. Margaret Kapellen passed away at the Marshfield hospital Friday evening, August 23, at the age of 77.

Mrs. Kapellen, whose maiden name was Margaret *Korman, was born at Fredonia, Wis., January 12, 1863, to Gottlob and Margareth *Kormann.

On September 30, 1890, she was united in marriage to Mathias Kapellen, one of the early day shoe merchants in Neillsville, who passed away many years ago, the widow continuing to make her home in Kapellen block until her death.

The departed was one of the most deeply beloved and highly respected women in this city. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and as long as she was able she devoted much of her time and energy to the work of that organization. Whatever Mrs. Kapellen undertook, she did exceptionally well. She was widely known for her ability and skill in the culinary and fine arts lines. She undertook the most intricate pieces of fancy work, nothing being too difficult for her needle, and up to the last illness her hands were never idle. Socially, Mrs. Kapellen was gracious and pleasing, finding time in her busy life to take part in the community’s social affairs. One of the delightful organizations of the long ago, to which she belonged, was known as the Gemuetlichkeit club. Only four or five of that group of women are still living.

Here for the funeral from a distance were; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Becker, Mrs. Lester K. Becker, Mrs. David C. Becker and Miss Clara Becker, all of Chicago. (The latter, a niece of Mrs. Kapellen, arrived in Marshfield last Wednesday and remained at the bedside until the end came.); Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Lynch, Milwaukee; and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Palen, Wauwatosa.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Monday morning at 9 o’clock, the Rev. J. A. Biegler officiating. Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery here.

*Surname was spelled both ways.
