Hanson, Ellen "Jean" (December 16, 1926 - June 22, 2006)

Ellen "Jean" Hanson, age 79, of Neillsville, died on Thursday June 22, 2006 at Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville, Wis.

Ellen was born December 16, 1926 on a farm near Blanchester, OH, to Frances and Letha (Albers) McCartney. Ellen attended a one room school near Pekin, IL. Before marriage she was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria, IL, for three years.

Ellen married Earl Hanson April 6, 1947 at her parents’ home near Pekin. They moved to Neillsville in May of 1947 and farmed in the Town of Pine Valley. In June of 1989 they retired from farming and moved to "Robin’s Nest," lived there until 1991 when they moved to an apartment in Neillsville, Wis. Earl died on January 31, 2000.

Jean worked by her husband’s side on the farm, took pride in her family, loved to sew and made many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Neillsville Methodist Church and served for 10 years on the District Executive Committee of the United Methodist Women.

Jean is survived by one son, Larry (Robin) Hanson, of Neillsville; three daughters, Carol (Steven) Sibley, of Dilworth, MN; Shirley (Rick) Gohde, of Alma Center; Jane (Dennis) Marksteiner, of Neillsville; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grand-children; one sister, Lois Young, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; one great-grandson, Anthony; and one brother, Harvey McCartney.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at the Buchanan Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis. Rev. Craig Conklin officiated. Burial was in the Dells Dam Cemetery.

Buchanan Funeral Home of Neillsville assisted the family with arrangements.
