Locals

Miss Verna Kosmosky left for Mosinee Monday where she is visiting friends for several days.

There will be a regular meeting of the America Legion Auxiliary on Monday, January 8, at the Legion Hall at 8 p.m. lunch will be served.

The Wilding families, including Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Wilding, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Wilding, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Wilding, and Buford and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Gerhardt were Sunday guests at the Lee Gower home in Granton.

Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Peterson and daughters spent Friday at Wisconsin Rapids where Mr. Peterson transacted business.

Misses Viola Hanchman and Viola Hake returned to Whitewater, Wis., Tuesday night. They are students at the State Teachers college there.

Dr. And Mrs. R. B. Washburn, Augusta, spent New Year’s Day here with relatives and friends.

Miss Betty Schmedel returned to Madison Tuesday after a holiday visit here with her parents.

Attorney and Mrs. W. J. Rush spent New Year’s Day with his sister, Miss Alice Rush, at Black River Falls.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bradbury and children have moved to the J. L. Kleckner house on West Fifth Street. The Bradbury apartment vacated by the traffic officer and his family will be occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hays of Illinois, Mr. Hays being employed with the A. T. & T. Company.

Miss Mildred Baumann, who has been home from Stout Institute with her parents during the holidays, will return to Menomonee Sunday. Miss Baumann spent Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the Lutheran Retreat at Mount Morris, near Wautoma, taking part in the young people’s winter camp activities. The camp is located among a group of lakes, where the Lutheran association purchased ninety acres of land. The various winter sports were a delightful part of the season’s activities. One hundred and thirty-five were in attendance.

Lorenz Hackbarth, employed on the Monroe County Leader at Tomah, was a guest in the Robert Kurth home over New Year’s.

Mrs. Robert Reimer and her sister, Mrs. Harold Schindeldecker, and family, who left Minong, Wis., December 28, for Bellingham, Wash., via automobile, arrived in that city Christmas Eve, where they are enjoying a month with their parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wendt and daughter, Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Botnen and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Haas were New Year’s dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Oluf Botnen.

Vilas and Kenneth Kraft of Milltown arrived Saturday to spend several days at the Robert Dux home and with their former schoolmates.

Mrs. John Walk left for Milwaukee last week to visit with her son, Harold, and family, with whom she went to the city. This is the first time the Walk family had all been together for eleven years. There are four grandchildren, who were here also.

Ardeen Dollasse, who has been working in St. Paul the past year, has returned home of her parents in Levis, her eyesight preventing her from going on with her work.

Miss Marian Calway returned to her studies at Appleton, New Year’s Day after two weeks vacation at the home of her parents, Attorney and Mrs. F. D. Calway.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wall and Miss Edris Horswill spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wall at Augusta. On New Year’s Day Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wall were guests of his parents here, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Winters also being guests in the Wall home that day.

Miss Ruth Zimmerman and Jess Nourse of Milwaukee came Saturday for an over New Year’s visit with her parents and brother.

Mrs. J. G. Sliter, who was severely injured in an automobile accident December 23, while on her way to Neillsville, is gradually recovering at the Marshfield hospital. Her small daughter, Judith, is being cared for in the home of her father, George Sontag. Mr. Sliter and his mother were here from Milwaukee over Sunday to visit Mrs. Sliter and the baby.

Miss Sylvia Seif and Janet North returned to Madison Monday to resume their studies at the University of Wisconsin.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Barlow and family of Madison and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wesley of Elk Mound were New Year day guest of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Welsh and son.

Joseph Meyer was taken to the Marshfield Hospital for treatment Sunday.

Father A. Dorenbach recently underwent a serious operation at Marshfield Hospital. Father Dorenbach was pastor of St. Mary’s church here for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Clouse of Loyal were Neillsville callers Wednesday and had dinner with his mother.

Mr. and Mrs. John Ackerman entertained a few friends at their home New Year’s evening. Mr. Ackerman is the bookkeeper at the Ford garage.
