Humke, Verona (6 JUN 1942)

Miss Verona Humke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Humke, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), and Robert Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Jackson, Owen, were married at an afternoon ceremony which took place Saturday at 2:30 o’clock at West Side Immanuel Reformed Church at Greenwood. The Rev. P.H. Franzmeier officiated. Baskets of iris, roses and lilies of the valley decorated the church.

The bride wore white georgette trimmed with lace insets, and made with a sweetheart neckline, short, puffed sleeves, a tight bodice and a full skirt. Her three quarter length veil was worn with a crown of seed pearls, and she carried a bouquet of Talisman roses and carnations. Her locket was a gift of the groom.

The maid of honor, Miss Elaine Jackson, a sister of the groom, appeared in pink georgette with lace insertions, worn with a matching headdress and veil. Her colonial bouquet was of roses and sweet peas.

The bridesmaid was Miss Elsie Steiger, a cousin of the bride. Her gown was of blue frosted silk organdy, with headdress and veil to match. Her flowers were similar to those of the maid of honor.

The bride’s brother, Irvin Humke, acted as best man, and the bridegroom also was attended by his uncle, Bill Behrens. All wore dark suits and carnation boutonnieres. Eldor and Everett Humke, cousins of the bride, were ushers.

During the ceremony, a solo, "O Promise Me," was sung by Miss Ruth Humke, sister of the bride. She was accompanied by Mrs. Franzmeier, wife of the pastor, who also played the wedding marches.

The bride’s mother was dressed in brown, with brown and white accessories, and the groom’s mother wore navy blue with matching accessories. Each wore a shoulder corsage of sweet peas and carnations.

Approximately 90 guest attended the reception held at the home of the bride’s parents, which was decorated with baskets of cut flowers, a large white wedding bell, and streamers of pink, white and blue. When the wedding supper was served, a three-tiered wedding cake formed the centerpiece for the bride’s table.

In the evening a wedding dance was held at the merry Ol’ Gardens at Longwood.

Both the bride and groom are 1940 graduates of Greenwood High School. The bride later was graduated from the Milwaukee School of Accredited Beauty Culture at Eau Claire, and was employed at the Barr Beauty Shoppe, Greenwood. The groom attended the University of Wisconsin and River Falls State Teachers College. They will be at home to their friends immediately at the groom’s farm, Owen, but they plan to take a wedding trip in the fall.
