Hildegarde "Hilda" Bowen

Hildegarde "Hilda" Erma (Peissig) Bowen, 91, a life long resident of Curtiss, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital Palliative Care on Tuesday, November 14, 2006.

Visitation with family and friends was at the Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford on Sunday, November 19, 2006, from 3 to 8 p.m. and again on Monday at the church from 11:30 a.m. to service time.

Maurina-Community Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Hildegarde Erma (Peissig) was born on January 4, 1915, in the Town of Hoard, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Pfohl) Peissig.

As a young girl, after the death of her mother, Hilda cared for her siblings. She later was employed with J.C. Penny of Chippewa Falls in sales.

Hilda and Lester James Bowen were united in marriage on Sept. 19, 1949 in Wausau.

After their marriage, Hilda worked alongside Les as bookkeeper and secretary for Bowen Enterprises which included the Curtiss Feed Mill, Hardware Store, Boumatic Dairy Service, Ski-Doo dealership and The Olde Saloon Restaurant & Bar.

Hilda was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Curtiss Lions Club, Boomtown Snow Chasers and active in the Curtiss Community Club. She also enjoyed deer hunting and was camp cook at their cabin in Glidden where she shot trophy bucks. Hilda was also a successful caribou hunter in Alaska.

Hilda will be dearly missed by her husband of 57 years Les Bowen of Curtiss; step-son, Dennis (Patti) Bowen of Wausau; step-daughter Idelle Myre, a resident of the Clark County Heath Care Center in Owen; seven grandchildren, Jeff, Jody Paige, Tana, Marty, Traci and Toni; 12 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; and on brother, Emery "Pete" Peissig of Waunakee.

She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Harry, Ollie, Arthur, Franz and Ted Peissig; two sisters, Melanie Cutts and Margie House, step son Dale Lester Bowen, November 12, 2002; and a granddaughter, Dawn.
