Dankemyer, Wanda (Marriage - 23 Sept. 1939)

Holy Ghost Evangelical Lutheran Church at Milwaukee was the scene of an early fall wedding at 6 o’clock Saturday evening, September 23, when Miss Wanda Dankemyer, Milwaukee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dankemyer, Chili, became the bride of Elmer H. Johnson, son of Ernst Johnson, Milwaukee.

The double-ring ceremony was performed by Rev. J. C. Mueller in the presence of many relatives and friends. Wagner’s "Bridal Chorus" from Lohengrin was played at the processional and Mendelsohn’s wedding March at the recessional. The ushers were Gilbert Johnson, brother of the groom, and Carl Spaeth, a friend.

The couple was attended by Mrs. Maybelle Stumpf, a friend of the bride, acting as matron of honor, and Roland Johnson, brother of the groom, as best man. Little Vade Dankemyer, niece of the bride was flower girl.

The bride, who approached the altar on the arm of her father, wore a gown of white brocaded velvet, fashioned with a Queen Anne collar, a fitted bodice and long, tight sleeves coming to a point over the hand and a long flowing train which was accented with a row of buttons down the back. Her finger-tip veil was held in place by a "frau frau" coronet, and her arm bouquet was of white chrysanthemums.

The matron of honor was attired in royal blue moiré taffeta trimmed with royal blue velvet, princess style, with a velvet bow bustle and full train. She carried an arm bouquet of bronze chrysanthemums.

The flower girl wore a dress of copen blue moiré taffeta, trimmed with copen blue velveteen. Her dress was miniature of that worn by the matron of honor. A large velveteen bow was worn in her hair and upon her arm she carried a colonial bouquet of yellow bachelor buttons and baby mums.

The groom and his attendant wore dark suits and white mum boutonnieres. The bride’s mother was attired in a dress of grape wine chaille with black accessories. Her shoulder corsage combined gladioli and bachelor buttons.

A reception for 220 guests followed at 8 o’clock at the Lucas Paettle hall. Out-of-town guests attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dankemyer, Mr. and Mrs. William Dankemyer and daughter, LaVada and Wilma Jean of Chili, Mr. and Mrs. Bitzen, Kenosha; Mr. and Mrs. Craemer of Indiana and Miss Hulda Fischer, Spencer.

The bride is a graduate of McKinley High School Marshfield, with the class of 1931 and the Neillsville teachers’ training and taught school in Clark County for several years. Later she completed a course in beauty culture in Milwaukee and received her manager’s license and continues her work in that city.

The groom received his education in the schools in Milwaukee and has employment in the city’s postal department.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson will reside in Milwaukee.
