Local Happenings

C. F. Willman, was a business caller at the county seat Monday.

Clarence Perry came from Chicago last Saturday evening to spend a while with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. N. Hart.

Mrs. R. J. Stuve took an auto load of strawberries to Tomahawk Wednesday. Tuesday Fred Theiler, Jr. took a truck load to Phillips. Others are delivering berries to Loyal and Chippewa Falls.

A party of five young ladies, Misses Brandstedter, Fowler, and Hart and Miss Erickson of St. Paul, and Miss Graves of Eau Claire are cottagers at Stone Lake near Hayward this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Myron Brown from Barron, spent Thursday with L. O. Wilbur and family. Mrs. John Neswold and son, Lloyd, also Mrs. Chester Neswold Sundayed with Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Walt Bemis were called to Oshkosh recently to attend the funeral of Mrs. Bemis mother, Mrs. Church. Deceased was 98 years of age.

The grading outfit for work on the highway between the Jackson county line and Black River Falls moved onto the job Wednesday. H. E. Wilson is in charge. He will reside at Merrillan during the week.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rush of Black River Falls, and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Schrader of Racine were guests at the C. P. Olson home Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Johnson were host and hostess to a reunion of Mrs. Johnson’s family last Sunday. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stallard, of this village; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Sherwin, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Sherwin, Mr and Mrs. F. Thompson, of Black River Falls.

Ed Bleiler and wife left Monday for Monroe on a visit to relatives. They were accompanied to Madison by Mrs. Herman Rieder and son, Herman, who are visiting at the home of Lloyd Staffon.

The name of Ellsworth Babier appears in the list of graduates at the 79th annual commencement of the university last Monday morning. He received the degree of bachelor of arts course in commerce.

Miss Grace Flood, of Racine was a visitor with her sister, Mrs. Clarence Olson, this week. Mrs. Olson is also entertaining for the summer weeks, her cousin, Miss Betty Sprague of Milwaukee.

John Michael has about completed his annual assessment of the town. The board of review meets next Monday.

R. A. Chambers is enjoying his outing from his position as manager of the Woolworth store at Ft. Madison, Iowa, and arrived with his family the last of the week for a visit with the home folks. Sunday, Mr. Chambers and family. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Chambers, G. N. Crandell and family, and Walter Smith and family left for Solon Springs to spend a few days at Hugh Chambers cottage, the latter from Superior joining the party.

Mrs. Helen Cole has returned from a visit with her sisters at Milwaukee and Randolph.
