Alton, Charles (4 SEP 1863 - 16 APR 1935)

Charles Alton, 71, resident of the village of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), died at his home there, Tuesday evening. He had been in failing health for the past several weeks, but had not been confined to his bed, and his death was sudden, resulting from a heart attack.

He had been a resident of that village for a great many years, moving there from Maplehurst, where he had been engaged in farming. After coming to Withee he entered the dray business, and continued that work until a few years ago. He had been active in civic affairs and at numerous times held public office.

He is survived by his widow. Funeral services took place this afternoon from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, at 3:30 o’clock, and burial took place in Riverside Cemetery.

Charles P. Alton, aged 71 years, passed away at his home in the village of Withee on Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 1935.

Mr. Alton was born in Genesco, Ill., on Sept. 1, 1863, and came to Eau Claire with his parents when just a small child. He came to Clark County at the age of 13, and has been a resident here until his death.

After coming to Withee he entered the dray business and continued that work until a few years ago. He has been very active in civic affairs, and at numerous times has held public offices.

Mr. Alton was married to Mary Tormey of Thorp in 1900. No children were born to the union.

He is survived by his wife; one brother, George, of Park Falls; Mrs. Mary Borigo of Powers, Ore.; Mrs. Eugene Cummins of Lindsay, Mont.; and Mrs. Kate Livesay of Neillsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Withee on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with burial at Riverside Cemetery.
