Schmidt, Adolph (26 Dec. 1864 - 12 Aug. 1939)

Adolph Schmidt, 74, Town of Pine Valley farmer, passed away August 12, at 12:15 a.m. after a three months’ illness with dropsy.

Mr. Schmidt was born in Russia, Poland, December 26, 1864, to August and Juliana Schmidt. He came to American in 1891 and settled in West Virginia. For forty years he had been a resident of Clark County. May 19, 1887, he was married to Pauline Gloff in the native country, who survives him. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt. Two sons and a daughter preceded their father in death. The surviving children are: Fred Schmidt, Milton, Vermont; Robert, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; Gustave, Pine Valley; Edward, Chicago; Emil, Pine Valley; Emily, Mrs. Harold Pischer, Neillsville, and Emma Schmidt of Great Barrington, Mass. There are four grandchildren and two sisters: Mrs. Pauline Kolk and Rosalie Ranart.

Mr. Schmidt was a hard-working man, hone and upright in character and despite the many hardships he encountered during his lifetime he forged on until his health began to fall several years ago. When he first came to Neillsville, he lived in the city for a time, working on the section and in the furniture factory.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. August 15 at the home and at 2 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. Theodore Zaremba officiating. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery. The pallbearers were John Wich, Henry Bartell, Frank Knoop, William Beyer, Frank Hemp and Joe Marth.

Those from away who attended the funeral are: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schmidt, Lake Geneva; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schmidt and Mrs. William Beversdorf and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Beversdorf and daughter, Audrey, of Shawano.
