Root, Alma Loretta (September 19, 1917 - July 9, 2005)

Alma L. Root, age 87, of Thorp, died on Saturday, July 9, 2005 at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, in Stanley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2005, at the Thorp Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Phil Fesler will officiate and burial will follow in the Town of Roosevelt Cemetery in Lublin. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

Alma Loretta Dennis was born on September 19, 1917, in Burgettstown, PA, the daughter of Amos and Olive (Kuhns) Dennis. She was raised and received her education in Uniontown, PA, where she graduated from high school. After completing her schooling, Alma moved to Detroit and worked in an airplane factory during WWII. She was united in marriage on September 25, 1945 to Ralph M. Root in Michigan. They moved to California in 1947, where Alma continued to work in airplane factories until 1969, at which time they moved to Thorp. Alma worked at the Dairy Bar, the Senior Center and at the Ace Hardware Store, in Thorp, before retiring. Her husband, Ralph, died on January 19, 1982. Alma was a former member of the Clark County Homemakers and loved gardening, sewing, bird watching and crossword puzzles.

She will be sadly missed by her two daughters: Maureen Russell of Lublin and Amanda Michelle Root of Playa Del Rey, CA; one grandson, Joel Williams; one brother, Harold "Bud" (Virginia) Dennis of Punta Gorda, FL; and one sister, Wilda "Dolly" (Harold) Newcomer of Clawson, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Loretta in infancy; one grandson, Brent Williams; and one sister, Jean Costolo.
