Howard John (14 Oct. 1859 - 21 June 1939)

John Howard passed away at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, June 21, at his home on East Sixth Street after a long illness following a stroke of paralysis.

He was born in Grant Township October 14, 1859, to Rachel and Robert Howard. He attended the rural school and grew to manhood on the farm. He was married 56 years ago to Lillian King and lived on a farm for several years after their marriage, later moving to Neillsville where he worked for a time and then went into the implement business with his brother, Leonard.

Four children were born to them, two of them whom preceded the father in death, Ray, who died of diphtheria in 1901, and Glenn, who was killed in action in France during the World War. Mrs. Howard, the daughter, Bessie, Mrs. John Anderson, and the son, Floyd, both of St. Paul, Survive. There are also four grandchildren, two brothers, Leonard of Neillsville and George of Grant, and a sister, Mrs. Edward Selves, Grant. A brother and a sister preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard moved to St. Paul in 1918 where he had employment for many years. After his health failed he desired to return to Neillsville to be near his brothers and old friends, moving back to this city about 14 months ago.

The daughter and son will arrive this Wednesday evening, and will assist the mother in making complete funeral arrangements. The funeral will be held at the Lowe Funeral Home and interment will take place in the Neillsville Cemetery.
