GEO. FLOWER DROWNED

Further Particulars Could Not Be Obtained

Just before we went to press Thursday afternoon a message was received here from Medford stating George Flower was drowned that morning. No further particulars could be learned.

Peter Oleson, his brother-in-law, left at once for Medford.

George was employed as millwright at a small mill twelve miles west of Medford, he and his wife moved there only a few weeks ago.

Last week we stated that a message stating that George Flower had been drowned at a small mill west of Medford had been received but up to the time of going to press no further particulars could be learned.

From Tom Tuttle, who is foreman of the mill and who was present at the funeral we received the following particulars which however, do not throw much light upon the manner in which he met his tragic death.

George was millwright at the mill but the duties of that position did not require all his time and being of a very active and industrious disposition he went about the mill lending a helping hand where it was needed. On the morning of the accident the man who was sending logs up the slide was called from his post and as the mill was getting short, George went down to the foot of the slide to send some up, only four logs came up and as the mill was again getting short one of the crew went down to investigate but no trace of him (George) nor the pike pole which was used to pull the logs to the slide could be found, a fruitless search of the blacksmith shop and other buildings was made and in the meantime one of the boys had discovered George’s hat floating on the water, hooks were at once procured and the pond dragged, his body found only a few feet away from the foot of the slide in fifteen feet of water. The crew worked for an hour using all known methods for reviving a drowned person but to no avail. The general suppostiont is that he slipped and was rendered unconscious by striking his head on a log.

George E. Flower was born at Stockbridge, Wis. [* *]He came to Clark county with his parents in 1898. He was united in marriage to (unknown) on Dec 9,1907 from Unity (bride was).

He was also survived by his mother, father, four (blank) probably sisters and (blank) brothers.

In Memoriam

Whereas, it has pleased the Divine Ruler to remove from our midst our esteemed and worthy Friend, George Flower, who has been a faithful member of Unity Assembly No. 401 Equitable Fraternal Union.

Resolved that we extend to his bereaved wife our sincere and heartfelt sympathy in this her hour of sorrow; and be it further.

Resolved; that a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the minutes of this assembly and a copy be forwarded to the bereaved wife; and be it further resolved that the charter be draped for a period of thirty days.
