Gutowski, Charles, Sr. (March3, 1909 - May 30, 2005)

Charles Gutowski, Sr. age 96, Thorp died on May 30, 2005. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp, WI with Father Keith Apfelbeck officiating. Burial will follow at the New St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1 from 4-8p.m. at the Plombon Funeral Chapel, Stanley, WI with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary being recited. Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Jesse Gutowski, Scott Brazil, Marty Hendricks, David Soborowicz, Ray Gutowski and Dennis Schmidt.

Charles was born in the Town of Thorp, Clark County, WI on March 3, 1909, the son of Anton and Veronika (Kzowjok) Gutowski. He grew up in the Junction area and attended area schools. He was united in marriage to Bernice Szczech on July 2, 1932. They moved to the Reseburg area in 1946 and farmed there until their retirement. Charles moved to Stanley in 1975 and later in 2003 moved to Thorp where he has resided since. While farming in Reseburg he served on the Town Board and during his retirement years enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards.

He is survived by his children: Chuck of Stevens Point, WI; Ray (Rose) and Joan (Cliff) Schmidt both of Thorp, WI; Teri (Dick) Hendricks of Ladysmith, WI; Mary (Bud) Krie of Fall Creek, WI; Joe of Chippewa Falls, WI; Rose of Lucerne Valley, CA; Andy of Keil, WI; Geri (Dave) Brazil of Sunrise, AZ and Nancy (Steve) McGuire of Beaumont, CA; 35 grandkids and 32 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice in 1973; daughter-in-law Pat in 1999; one granddaughter; one great-grand-son; five brothers and two sisters.
