Wojcik, William Joseph (June 6, 1924 - June 26, 2005)

William J. Wojcik, age 81, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Thorp, died at Barnes Jewish Hospital, in St. Louis, MO, on Sunday June 26, 2005.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2005 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Father Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Thursday, June 30, 2005 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary service and at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

William Joseph Wojcik was born on June 6, 1924, in Thorp, WI the son of John and Caroline (Czyzewicz) Wojcik. He was raised and educated in Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School in 1942. He entered the U. S. Army Air Corp on December 11, 1942, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on November 25, 1945. On November 12, 1947, William was united in marriage to Shirley F. Schultze at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. On March 25, 1948 he entered the U. S. Air Force and worked as an electrical engineer for the Ground Electrical Engineers Installation Agency until his discharge on April 30, 1965. He then went to work for the Civil Service on June 29, 1966 until his retirement in 1986. In 1977, they moved to Troy, IL and lived there until 1995, at which time they moved to Tucson, AZ. He resided there until the time of his death. William enjoyed working in his yard and garden and playing bridge.

He will be sadly missed by his children: Greg (special friend Ann Fedor) of Glen Carbon, IL; Sandra (Joe) Crump of Trenton, IL; Linda (John) Plunkett of Blossvale, NY; and Lori (Darren) Lauron of Austin, TX; six grandchildren; Ian and Aaron Vance, Jill Crump, Shawn Plunkett, Samantha and Alyson Lauron; one sister-in-law, Rosalie Wojcik of Chicago; one brother-in-law W. E. "Jr." Vanderhyden, of Thorp; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley, on January 25, 2004; one brother Conrad Wojcik and one sister Dorothea Soborowski
