Hendricks, Sister Mary Arlene, O. S. M. (January 15, 1927 - July 21, 2005)

Sister Mary Arlene Hendricks, OSM, age 78, of the Servants of Mary, Ladysmith, died at Rusk County Memorial Hospital, Ladysmith, WI on July 21, 2005.

She was born in Madison, WI, on January 15, 1927, the daughter of August and Elizabeth (Boss) Hendricks, Ladysmith, WI. As a very young girl she entered the Convent in Ladysmith on June 18, 1944 and professed her vows on February 12, 1947.

Sister enjoyed her ministry of teaching in the parish schools of Thorp, Washburn, Ladysmith, Weyerhaeuser, and Spooner, WI; St. Paul, MN; Hillside, IL and Wenton, WV. Her degree was in education and art.

In 1987, after dedicating 36 years to the education of youth, Sister moved to the Convent in Ladysmith, set up an art studio and became a free lance artist. She taught art lessons to adults and children; gave workshops in art through the Service Center for Life and continued doing art work for sisters, parishes and various celebrations.

Sister was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Patricia Gutowski.

She is survived by a sister, Jeanne Rose Bissen, a brother, Richard Hendricks; nieces and nephews and her sisters, Servants of Mary.

Visitation was held at the Servants of May Convent Chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. and one hour before the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2005, with Rev. Ephrem Pottamplackal officiating. Burial was in the convent cemetery.

The Nash-Jackan Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
