Theis, John (27 MAR 1851 - 25 OCT 1928)

John Theis was born March 27, 1851, in Germany, and when he was four years old his parents came to Waukesha, Wis., where the family lived until 1868, when they came to Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), settling on a farm two miles west of town. On Jan. 8, 1878 he was married to Miss Helena Wensel of Arcadia. Nine children were born to this union namely: Clara, Mrs. John Zingsheim of Elroy; Susan, Mrs. Frank Ray of La Crosse; Peter, who died May 30, 1909; John of Minot, N.D.; Katharine, Mrs. Nick Zook of Smiley, Sask.; Nick of Glendive, Mont.; Mary, Mrs. Paul Elger; Anna and Arnold of Humbird.

Mr. Theis lived on the farm fifty-four years, where his wife died on Dec. 11, 1918. In 1922 he moved into this village. He was ailing for the past two months with heart trouble, and was taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital at Eau Claire, Oct. 22nd, for treatment, where he passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 25, 1928, aged 77 years, 6 months and 28 days.

Surviving are three sons and five daughters, and one brother, Nick, of Fowler, Mont.

The funeral services were held from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairview, Monday morning, Rev. Fr. Raschke officiating, and Rev. Fr. Novak of Willard, preaching the sermon. Burial was in the cemetery at the church. Those from away to attend the funeral were Mrs. John Zingsheim, Elroy; Mrs. Frank Ray, La Cross; Nick Theis, Fowler, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Kuhlman, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Meyer, Winona, Minn.; John Remlinger and Mrs. Ben Concord, Eau Claire.
