Wells, Lydia A. (17 APR 1845 - 5 FEB 1927)

From the Canistota (S.D.) Clipper of Feb 10, 1927, this obituary of Mrs. Lydia Wells is taken:

"Word reached Canistota Friday forenoon that Mrs. Lydia Wells had passed away at the Ark of Refuge Home at Sioux Falls that morning. The funeral, conducted by Rev. McCauley, was held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon. Interment was made in the Canistota Cemetery.

"Lydia Ann Van Woert was born April 17, 1845. She grew to womanhood in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she took care of her aged parents for a good many years. She was united in marriage to Mr. Richard Wells in 1883, having lived with him 26 years. (This period of her life was spent on the farm now owned by Anton Mayer, and in the village of Humbird, Clark Co., Wis.). Mr. Wells was totally blind for five years and during that time she cared for him very tenderly. After the death of Mr. Wells she moved to Vancouver, Washington, where she made her home with an adopted sister for six years. She was the last member of a family of seven children. She came to South Dakota five years ago and has made her home with relatives here ever since, until three weeks ago, when she was taken to the Ark of Refuge Home of Sioux Falls."
