Wright, Zenas H. (29 OCT 1838 - 3 JUL 1926)

Zenas H. Wright passed away at an Eau Claire Hospital July 3rd, 1926, at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 3 days. The infirmities of age being the cause of his death.

He was born near what was known as Fort Defiance, Ohio, Oct. 29, 1838, and his early childhood was spent in Michigan. In 1848 they moved to the lead mining section of southern Wisconsin, and from there returned to Manitou Island in Lake Michigan, where the subject of this sketch was assistant lighthouse keeper. In 1856, they recrossed the lake, coming to Racine, and continuing westward by ox team, they arrived at Black River Falls in the fall of the same year.

Mr. Wright spent several years in the pineries, and was a lumber pilot on the Black and Mississippi Rivers. He was also engaged with his father in the flour and feed business at Coral City. He then purchased a farm in Garden Valley (Jackson Co., Wis.), where he was a resident for forty-nine years. In 1911, he moved to City Point, where he resided until a short time before his death.

Mr. Wright was married April 19, 1868, to Mary J. Nott, at Northfield, Wisconsin. Eight children came to bless this union, five of them preceding him in death. His good wife, three children, Louis of Milwaukee, Mrs. Maud Paulson of City Point, and Leon of Altoona, mourn his death. He is also mourned by a brother, Phineas Wright of Wauketa, Oklahoma, and a half-brother, Ed Wright of Stockton, Calif., eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The remains were brought to this village Tuesday and funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, Rev. L.L. Litchfield officiating. Burial was made in the family lot in the Garden Valley Cemetery. Besides the bereft wife, relatives and friends present at the services were L.L. Wright, Milwaukee; Leon Wright and family, Altoona; Mr. and Mrs. Iver Paulson, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Paulson, Claude Paulson, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Osgood, Granton; Mrs. Ed Dunn, Merrillan.
