Ole Fryslie was the son of Andrew (1818–1900) and Kjersti Gjerdalen (1823–1907) who married 12 Oct 1849 in Norway.  His father renounced his Norwegian Citizenship and became a naturalized American  in Green County the 31st of October, 1856.  The day after Christmas, in 1823, Kjersti was born in Valders, Buskerud, Norway which ia little over 80 miles from Andrew's family home.  From the time of his birth 10 Sep 1818 in Oppland, Norway, he had traveled over 4,000 miles to take part in building his adopted country in Browntown in south central, Wisconsin.

Ole was born 25 Oct 1853 in Monroe, Jordan Twp, Green Co., Wisconsin, just five years after Wisconsin gained statehood, 29 May 1848.. The closest town was Monroe Both of his parents were natives of Norway.  His father was naturalized in Green County the 31st of October, 1856.

Ole was one of the first pioneer farmers to locate south of Neillsville, Wisconsin.  His farm wasn't far from his younger brother Peter and his wife Orpha Jane and their three children.  He was there in December of 1907 when his niece, Kjersti Fryslie, was molested by Frets /Fritz Thedesen, an immigrant from Denmark.  He was very likely a part of the enraged mob who threatened to hang the guy for his despicable acts.  But, his sister-in-law Orpha, the mother of the abused girl, prevented the illegal retaliation from taking place.  Fortunately, she understood-- two wrongs would not make a right.  It is strange that such perverts are not rendered impotent and prevented from repeating such a crime.  Some feel it is acceptable to kill an innocent fetus which might result from such a situation but surgical prevention of the perpetrator is thought unacceptable, even when they are incapable of controlling their actions.  A jury of his peers did find him guilty and he was sent to the prison in Waupun which was certainly better than being hung in the Neillsville town center.

After Ole made considerable improvements to his farm, he sold out and joined some of his relatives in Flasher, ND.  He was know to be in good health but in the late summer of 1914, he suffered an attack of strangulated hernia, or bowel trouble, and was admitted to the Flasher Hospital.  An life-saving operation was needed.  However, being over sixty years old, he was unable to survive the operation and his life work ended. His brother and sister accompanied his remains to his old home at Browntown, Wisconsin, for burial.

He died 29 Aug 1914 in Flasher, Morton, ND

Ole Fryslie Passed Away

The Hustler has the sad duty this week of chronicling the death of Ole Fryslie, which occurred here last Saturday morning after an illness of a few weeks. The deceased has always been in good health up to about a month ago, when he suffered an attack of strangulated hernia, or bowel trouble, and a week ago he was brought to the Flasher Hospital and an operation was necessary in order to save his life. The operation was a serious one and owing to Mr. Fryslie’s advanced age, he being past sixty years, he was unable to survive the operation and passed away on Saturday morning. The remains were shipped to his old home at Browntown, Wisconsin, for interment, and were accompanied by his brother and sister. The deceased was a brother to H. A. Fryslie, who died here about five months ago. Mr. Fryslie was interested in large farming operations near Freda, in this county, and was a man of sterling worth in every respect. He lived a good life, was a friend of everyone with whom he came in contact, and never did an act which he might be ashamed of. He led a good life and has earned eternal life in the great hereafter. Flasher Hustler.
