Routsi, John (1884 - 27 MAY 1931)

John Routsi, a farmer, residing one mile south and half a mile east of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.), met a tragic death Wednesday morning when his head was badly crushed from a root of a stump from which he had just set off with a charge of dynamite.

Routsi was engaged in clearing land on his farm, being assisted by his son, and after placing a stick of dynamite under a large stump, lighted the fuse and then ran to be away when the explosion took place. He had barely gone seventy five feet when the dynamite was discharged, and parts of the stump were thrown at him with such force that he was instantly killed. He had been using short fuses, and the one that he used in this charge was hardly more than six inches long, which would not give him sufficient time to get to a distance of safety.

His body was brought to the undertaking parlors of the Griebenow-Weirich Co., where it is being prepared for burial. Funeral services will take place Friday afternoon from the home, and burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery.

He is survived by his widow and two sons.
