Boardman, Ethel Emma (February 23, 1917 - June 6, 2006)

Ethel E Boardman, age 89, of Thorp, died on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Oakbrook Nursing and Rehab in Thorp.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2006 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp. Rev. Daniel Welch will officiate and burial will follow in East Thorp Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Ethel Emma Hoff was born on February 23, 1917 in the Town of Little Black, Taylor County, to George and Martha (Brechlin) Hoff. She was raised and received her education in the Curtiss area and graduated from Abbotsford, Wis. High School. Ethel then attended Stevens Point Normal School for one year and then taught school in the Curtiss area.

She was united in marriage on May 29, 1938 to Lawrence "Louie" Boardman in the Town of Green Grove, Clark County. The couple moved to Thorp, where Ethel taught school at Pineland School, Sterling School in Stanley, and finally for the Thorp School District until her retirement in 1980. After retirement, she loved spending time with her family, ice fishing with her husband, knitting, doing crafts and word puzzles, playing cards, and spending time at the Dairy Bar. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she was very active in Ruth Circle, and she was a member of Clark County Retired teachers.

Ethel will be sadly missed by her children: Russell Boardman of Lincoln, NE; Gerald (Lynn Evans) Boardman of Baton Rouge, LA; Karen (James) Huhn of Watertown, WI; Richard (Lucianne) Boardman of Chippewa Falls, WI; Randolph (Jo) Boardman of New Berlin, WI; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Dorothy McCoison of Eau Claire and Myrtle Stoltenberg of Waupaca, WI; one brother Harley (Marion) Hoff of Belmont, CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lawrence, on August 28, 1993.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
