Vaughn, Daniel B. (1837 - 14 Dec. 1903)

Death Claims Another

D. B. Vaughn Passes Away

After a lingering illness, the seriousness of which was not manifest until quite recently, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Unity passed away Monday morning December 14,1903. Death was due to a complication of deceases (diseases) diabetes being the principal factor.

Daniel B. Vaughan was born in Jericho, Vermont, May 10,1837.

When but a child he removed with his parent to Underhill, the same state and afterward in 1857 to Redford, N. Y.

During the war of the Rebellion he enlisted in Co B (of the )118 Regiment New York Volunteer Infantry, being enrolled the 11th and mustered into service the 20th of August 1862 by Lieutenant Foote at Plattsburg.

While in service he was promoted to the rank of seventh Corporal. On the 9th of Sept. 1863 at Albany he received an honorable discharge by reason of a surgeons certificate of disability.

On July 17,1863 he was married to Sarah Jane Terry who survives him.

In the fall of 1867 they removed to Wisconsin and settled at Sun Prairie where he was engaged in farming for several years.

In 1880 they moved to Unity, here his pioneer life of self- sacrifice and toil made way for a well-improved farm and comfortable home and he lived until his decease.

There were born to them nine children, eight of who still remain to mourn his loss: Charles, Fred, John ,Ralph ,George, Lillian, Mary, and Nellie.

He was converted at the age of 20 and ever since has been identified with the M. E. Church.

Amid the temptations so prevalent to army life he did not sacrifice his Christ…article was cut off from this point.
