Lis, Edward "Eddie" (September 17, 1924 - July 1, 2006)

Edward "Eddie" Lis, age 81, of the Town of Colburn, rural Stanley, WI, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Cornell Area Care center surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on September 17, 1924 in the Town of Roosevelt, Taylor County, the son of Bruno and Sophie (Czerwinski) Lis. He grew up in the Lublin area and attended area schools, graduation from Gilman High School in 1943. In January of 1943 he joined the U. S. Navy serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He was discharged on February 6, 1946 and went to Chicago, IL where he attended and graduated from the Coyne Electrical School. He came to the Huron area in April of 1947 where he purchased the Huron Tavern with his brother Frank. On September 6, 1956 he was united in marriage to Alvina "Bana" Schumacher in Milwaukee, WI. They rand the tavern together from July 1, 1955 till the present.

Ed enjoyed baseball in his younger years playing center field and was well known for being a home run hitter. He loved dancing and polka music and also enjoyed fishing and gardening. He had a great dedication to his patrons over these many years of which he gained many friends. He was a member of the Gilman American Legion Post #359 and the Huron Sno-Gliders.

He is survived by his wife, Alvina "Bana" of Stanley, WI; three daughters: Maxine (John) Blazel of Eau Claire, WI, and Sandra (Steve) Lund and Karla (Rick) Dratz both of Eagan, MN; grandchildren: Mark Blazel and Megan, Mary and Michael Dratz; his sisters and brothers: Bernice Nowak of Gilman, WI; Helen Hudak of Stanley, WI; Stanley (Mary) Lis of Thorp, WI; Sophie Bandur of Stanley,WI; Al (Letty) Lis of Rhinelander, WI; and Tony (Carol) Lis of Stanley,WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Stella Klisiewicz and brothers: Frank, Bruno Jr. "Danny" and Joseph in infancy.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Plombon Funeral Chapel in Stanley, WI with Fr. Robert Nelson officiating. Friends called on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Inurnment will be at a later date.
