Hulce, George W. (1826 - 1904)

OBITUARY

We are called upon this week to chronicle the rather sudden death of one of Unity’s aged and respected citizen who passed away Saturday morning after a short illness following a stroke of paralysis which occurred Thursday evening.

George W Hulce was born in Broom County, New York, in 1826 when twenty-one years of age he removed with his parents to Fond du Lac County, WI., where in 1853 he was united in marriage to Clara A Chaney, they removed to Portage County in 1859 where they resided until 1902, since which time they have made their home with their daughter, Mrs. R. H. Brown in this village.

He was a man of more than ordinary intellect even at the advanced age of 78 years his mind was remarkably clear, he was of a very genial disposition, kind, considerate and generous to a fault.

Besides a loving wife he is survived by nine children who were, with the exception of Albert, present at the funeral, they are: Fred C. Fay, and Mrs. R. H. Brown of Unity; Will, Clarire, and Mrs. Grace Morgan of Stevens Point; Belle Hulce of Vale, Iowa; Albert of Plankington, S. D. and Walter of Chicago Heights, Ill.

The funeral was held from the M. E. Church where a very interesting sermon was delivered by the Rev. Wilson Mallory of Stevens Point, after which all that was earthly of George W. Hulce was laid at rest in the Unity Cemetery On the coffin were several beautiful floral offerings.

The pallbearers were: C. Healy, J. P. Johnson, M. P. Thayer, E. Creed, G. Groelle, and S. J. Misener.
