Mary Makovec, 88, Owen, formerly of Colby, died on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen, where she had resided since May 2006. She had resided at the Angelus Retirement Community, Colby, since 2000. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, July 17, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, Wis. Concelebrating the Mass were the Rev. Paul Gitter and Monsignor John Malik. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Withee. Pallbearers were Robert Mertens, Jerry Brezovic, Joseph Makovec, Kim Frederickson, Harold Laube, Eugene Zawadzki, Michaelm Benzel, and John Szymanski.

Mary Agnes Seliskar was born Nov. 22, 1917, in the rural Greenwood-Willard area to Gregor and Agnes (nee Jamnik) Seliskar. She was a 1936 graduate of Greenwood High School. She worked with her parents on the family farm and with World War ll moved to Waukegan where she was employed in a defense plant. She married Frank M. Makovec on Nov. 17, 1945. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. He died April 15, 2002, after 56 years of marriage. They farmed in the town of Green Grove for 27years, retiring in 1973 and moved to Owen, Wis. She was a very faith-filled woman actively working at Holy Rosary Parish, Owen, Wis. She was a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women and St. Cecelia Circle. She supported many seminarians studying for the priesthood and also priests in the foreign missions. She was also active with the Owen American Legion Auxiliary serving as president for a year.

She will be dearly missed by her children Gerald "Gerry" Makovec, Marshfield, and Margaret "Margie" (Berry) Sain, Glasgow, Mont.; one granddaughter, Bobbie Jo; two great-granddaughters, Vanessa and Tiffany; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Maurina Funeral Home, Owen, assisted the family with arrangements.
