Ludwig, Karen Kay (18 July 1863 - 22 Sept. 2005)

COLBY -Karen Kay Ludwig, 42, Colby, died Thursday Sept. 22, 2005, at Saint Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care, Marshfield, after a courageous bout with cancer.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. The Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate.

Burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Hesgard, Kevin Buchholz, Gary Heeg, Mark Wolff, Anthony Ludwig and Rick Ludwig. Honorary pallbearers will be her godchildren, Lucas Hesgard, Adam Thorne, Benjamin Sebold, Ava Wolff and Wyatt Klimpke.

Visitation with family and friends will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2005, at the Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

The former Karen Kay Klimpke was born July 18, 1963, in Marshfield, the daughter of Clarence "Clem" and Mary (Smith) Klimpke. Karen was a 1981 graduate of Colby, Wis. High School. On Aug. 28, 1993, Karen and Craig Ludwig were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby.

Karen was the original manager of Hardee's in Abbotsford for many years. In 1991, and for the next 14 years, she was an orthodontic technician with Dr. Robert Kay of Marshfield. She also was employed as a secretary at the Colby Healthview Eye Care Center for a brief time.

Karen was active in Zion Lutheran Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She was an avid Rick Springfield fan, enjoyed camping, stamping, scrapbooking and playing handbells in the church choir. Karen truly was loved by her family and many friends.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Craig Ludwig of Colby; her daughter, Elizabeth Klimpke of Osseo, and her friend, Casey Steen of Osseo; her son, Zachary Ludwig of Colby; her parents, Clarence "Clem" and Mary Klimpke of Dorchester; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Theoline Ludwig of Colby; her brother, Kenneth (Susan) Klimpke of Minocqua; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Anthony and Jean Ludwig of Medford; her paternal grandmother, Winifred Klimpke of Spencer; grandparents-in-law, Elizabeth Bach of Medford and Caroline Ludwig of Dorchester; two nephews, Wyatt and Kyle Klimpke; and two nieces, Nicole and Rachel Ludwig.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence Klimpke Sr., George and Dora Smith, Myrtle Seidel Smith, Conrad Bach, and Edwin Ludwig Sr.

A memorial will be established in Karen's name at a later date.

Karen Kay Ludwig, 42, Colby, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, in Palliative Care at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

She was an orthodontic technician for Dr. Robert Kay in Marshfield for 14 years.

Survivors include her husband, Craig Ludwig, Colby; a daughter, Elizabeth (Casey Steen) Klimpke, Osseo; a son, Zachary Ludwig, Colby; her parents, Clarence "Clem" and Mary Klimpke, Dorchester; a brother, Kenneth (Susan) Klimpke, Minocqua; paternal grandmother, Winifred Klimpke, Spencer; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. Burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, and will begin again at 10 a.m. Monday until the time of service at the funeral home.

A memorial will be established at a later date.

LUDWIG, Karen Kay, 42, of Colby died Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hospital Palliative Care, Marshfield.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby with burial in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford and an hour before services at the church.
