Pernsteiner, Joseph C. (2 Dec. 1921 - 9 July 2005)

GRANTON -- Joseph "Joe" C. Pernsteiner Jr. of Granton died July 9 at his home in the care of Ministry Home Care, Hospice Services, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2006, at St. Anthony's Church in Loyal. Visitation will be held one hour before church services. Father Bernard Rascke and Father Roman Kaiser will officiate. St. Anthony's choir will provide music. Burial service will be private at a later date.

Joe was born Dec. 2, 1921, in Medford, to Joseph and Ella (Crosswaite) Pernsteiner. He was a farmer, carpenter and mason. He was member of both St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Loyal as well as a member of Catholic Family Life Association.

Joe especially enjoyed creating with his hands and with wood. He loved his family very much -- we will miss him.

Joe is lovingly survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucille D. Lewer. He married his high school sweetheart at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford on Oct. 10, 1942. They farmed in Medford for 10 years, moving to a farm in the Granton area in March 1952. In 1968, they moved to their current residence.

Additionally, Joe is survived by four children, Joseph III (Franceen) Pernsteiner of Black River Falls, Maryann Wheeler of Marshfield, Janice (Wayne) Kuhl of Granton and Janet (Franklin) Boh of Neillsville; a daughter-in-law, Karen (Tom) Pernsteiner of Marshfield; grandchildren, Sue (Philip) Backaus, Shelly Payne, JoDee Pernsteiner, Christopher (Christine) Pernsteiner, Kay (Bob) Koshalek, Brenda (Matt) Triden, Jean Pernsteiner, Jolene (Chris) Sternweis, Ann (fiancé Chris Kolstad) Pernsteiner, Dominic (Candace) Pernsteiner, Pamela (fiancé Paul Fischer) Pernsteiner, Mary Jo (Randy Schueller) Wheeler, Daniel (Dawn) Wheeler, Julie (Troy) Tiedens, Erica (Eric) Lawton and Cindy (David) Seif. He is further survived by 14 great-grandchildren, Michael, Russell, Trent and Bailey Backaus, Brandon and Ashley Payne, Kyle and Rochelle Koshalek, Michael, Nicholas and Katelynn Sternweis, Zachary Wheeler-Savoy, Raella Schueller and Ella Lawton; two-step-great-grandchildren, Brittney Mayer and Chase Seubert; a brother, Chet Pernsteiner of Loyal; and a sister, Erna McNeely of Loyal.

Preceding him in death was a son Thomas Pernsteiner, April 10, 1983; daughter-in-law, Betty (Joe III) Pernsteiner, Sept. 6, 1983; son-in-law, Dan Wheeler, Nov. 18, 2002; two grandchildren, Chad Pernsteiner, Dec. 18, 1979, and Rebecca Pernsteiner, Aug. 1, 1983; his parents, Joseph Pernsteiner I and Ella Pernsteiner; three brothers, Alvin Pernsteiner, Herman Pernsteiner and James (Jim) Fullerton; and two sisters in infancy, Dorothy and Eileen Pernsteiner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to: Ministry Home Care-Hospice Services of Marshfield; National Farm Medicine Center of Marshfield; or St. Anthony's Church of Loyal.

The Cremation Society of Wisconsin assisted the family.
