Gloff, Emil Julius (8 Oct. 1866 - 1 Dec. 1937)

Emil Gloff, aged 71, long a resident here and for many years an employee of the city, passed away early Wednesday morning at his home on East Fifth Street.

Definite arrangements for the funeral are not made at this writing, but it will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, probably Saturday afternoon.

Emil Julius Gloff, 71, died at his home in this city at 6:35 m. Dec. 1, 1937. He suffered a stroke of paralysis for months ago and had been confined to his home since.

Deceased was born in Germany October 8, 1866, to Johann and Susanna (Hanke) Gloff, and came to this country in 1894, being a resident of Clark County since 1900. He was married May 26, 1892. Eleven children were born to them, two dying in infancy. The surviving children are:

(Tillie) Mrs. Richard Elenbaas, Lucas, Mich.; Karl Gloff, Albion, Mich.; Fred Gloff, Harvey, Ill.; John Gloff, Neillsville; Dan Gloff, Milwaukee; (Ann) Mrs. Louis Searles, Wauwatosa; Herman Gloff, Chicago; (Hilda) Mrs. Aug. Hirsch, Chicago; and Bertha Gloff of this city.

He is also survived by his wife, a brother, Herman, of Grant Township, and a sister, Mrs. Adolph Schmidt, of Pine Valley.

Deceased was a hard working man, widely known for thrift and honesty. During the years he worked for the city he made many friends through his kindly deeds and courteous manner.

All of the children were home for the funeral, which was held Saturday, Dec. 4, at 3 o’clock p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Wm. A. Baumann conducting the rites. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Henry Naedler, John Wich, Frank Hemp, Albert Hemp, John Dudei, and William Nemitz acted as pallbearers. The choir consisted of Paul Blum, Mrs. Baumann, Mildred Baumann, Adelia Schumacher, Louise Blum, Marion Dux, Marion Lewerenz and Sylvia Seif.
