Ott, John Frederick (8 Jan. 1859 - 30 Oct. 1937)

John Frederick Ott was born on January 8, 1859, in Germany. In October, 1883, he was married to Sophie Sasz in Germany and soon after left for America. They settled in Chilton, Wis., which was their home for about four years. In Oct., 1887, they came to this community and bought a farm in the town of Grant. In 1916 in was sold to his son, Albert, after whose death, in 1933, Mr. Ott again took back the farm. His son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Lueck, came to make their home with him, to care for him and work the farm.

He suffered a stroke Oct. 17 and passed away Oct. 30, after a two week’s illness. He had been in failing health for some time, but until three weeks before his death was able to attend church most of the time. He was a quiet, home loving man, and as he lived he fell asleep, in Jesus. His life was well spent. He will be missed by his children, grandchildren and other relatives and friends. His wife passed away March 13, 1925.

Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ott: a son and two daughters died in infancy and a son, Albert, passed away Nov. 6, 1933. He laves to mourn his death, three children, Martha, Mrs. Wm. Seelow, of Pine Valley, Phena, Mrs. C. F. Lueck, on the home farm, and Ernest of the town of Grant; 21 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Duge, Levis; other relatives; and a host of friends.

The funeral was held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the home in the town of Grant and 2 p.m. at St. John’ Lutheran church, Rev. Wm. A. Baumann conducting services; with burial in the Neillsville Cemetery.
