Schwarze, Lucille Anna (Marriage - 9 Sept. 1937)

The Westside Reformed church of Greenwood was the scene of a beautiful autumn wedding on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 9, when Mr. Gilbert Carl Rhode and Miss Lucille Anna Schwarze were united in marriage, Rev. Paul Franzmeier officiating. The double ring ceremony was used. About 175 guests were present and the altar garden flowers and candles.

Lohengrin’s wedding march was played as the wedding party approached the altar and as they retired Mendelsohn’s wedding march was played. Mrs. Paul Franzmeier at the piano. "Oh Perfect Love" and "I Love You Truly" were sung by Mrs. Willard Stafford and Herbert Humke.

The maid of honor was Miss Velma Rhode, sister of the groom and her other attendants were Mrs. Walter Schwarze and Mrs. Arno Miller. Jeanette Humke, dressed in white, was flower girl and Richard Franzmeier, also dressed in white was ring bearer.

Bernard Meier of Spencer, a cousin of the groom was best man. Other attendants were Mr. Walter Schwarze and Mr. Arno Miller.

The bride’s dress was white lace with a long train, made in princess style, with long pointed sleeves, stand-up collar, satin covered buttons down the back, seed pearl brooch at neck, finger length veil with lace border arranged in Juliet cap, edged with satin and seed pearls. She carried an arm bouquet of lilies and roses. The maid of honor wore pink lace over taffeta and the bridesmaids wore yellow and blue lace over taffeta and all carried bouquets of roses, asters and ferns.

The bridegroom and attendants wore dark suits.

A reception and wedding dinner given by the bride’s parents was held in the church parlors, 150 guests being in attendance. The rooms were decorated in pink, yellow and blue. A beautiful wedding cake in white, decorated with pink, yellow and blue made by the bride’s aunt, Mrs. Alfred Schwarze was a feature of the occasion.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Schwarze of the town of Warner. She graduated from Greenwood High School, class of 1933 and from the rural course of Eau Claire State Teachers College, class of 1934, and has since taught in Clark County.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rhode of the town of Eaton. He was graduated from Greenwood High School, class of 1930 and later from the Short Course in Agriculture at the State University. At present he is employed as chief clerk in the Soil Conservation office in Neillsville, Wis. After a trop to South Dakota, including the Bad Lands, the bride and groom returned Sept. 15, and are at home at 112 East 1st street, Neillsville, Wis.

Landry, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Schwarze and son, Gilbert, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Kopp, all of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. William Rhode, Juneau, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Decker, Peru, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schuh, Colby, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Schweinler, Mosinee; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Raatz, Mrs. Fred Schultz and children, Beaver Dam.
