Girard Senn, “Scout of the Year”, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Senn, Thorp, attended the 57th Convention in Eau Claire on Sunday, July 20, 1975. Girard attended the Distinguished Guests’ Breakfast at the Midway Motor Lodge. While at the breakfast, he met the American Legion Scout Chairman.

Ciolkosz, Erwin (4 May 1926 – 17 Jul 1975)

Erwin Ciolkosz, 49, Thorp, died Thursday, July 17, 1975 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Minneapolis after a long illness.

Mr. Ciolkosz was born May 4, 1926 in Chicago and married Rita Kaminski July 1, 1950 in Thorp. He attended the Thorp schools and was a veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, three sons, Raymond, Jerome and Eugene, all at home; five daughters, Christine, Suzanne, Marie, Marianne and Carolyn, all at home; his father, Louis, Thorp; four brothers, Leonard, Downers Grove, Illinois, Mitch, Bloomer, and Ronald and Ed, both of Thorp; three sisters, Mrs. Virgil Burzynski and Mrs. Bernadette Jakobowicz, both of Thorp, and Mrs. Delores Pacewicz, Palatine, Illinois.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Hedwig’s Chapel in Thorp. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Donald E. Percy, Senior Vice President for the University of Wisconsin System, will be the Commencement speaker on Saturday, August 2, 1975 at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. The ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Arena, with Chancellor Leonard Haas presiding.

Area students involved in this graduation are:

Susan Ellen Keating, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Keating, 101 W. Birth Street, Thorp, Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology.

John A. Wagoner, son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Wagoner, Route 3, Greenwood, Bachelor of Arts in Comprehensive Theatre.

Cadet Wayne E. Budrus is attending the Reserve Officers Training Corps camp, Riley, Kansas.

He will participate in six weeks of personal field exercises based upon the services learned in the reserved the past few years. At the completion of the program he will be recommended Secon Lieutenant.

Wayne is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland C. Budrus, Lublin, Wisconsin.

Announcement is made of the engagement of Miss Bonnie L. Witmer, 703B W. Adler Road, Marshfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul L. Witmer, Platteville, to Peter P. Flashinski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter A. Flashinski Sr., Route 1, Thorp.

Miss Witmer is a 1969 graduate of Loyal High School and a 1973 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She is employed as a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Mr. Flashinski is a 1966 graduate of Thorp High School, and a 1979 graduate of UW-River Falls. He merited a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science, and employed in dairy production.

The Flashinski-Witmer wedding date is October 18, 1975.

The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Szczech received the sacrament of baptism Sunday at St. Mary’s Czestochowa, with Father Stanley Andrzejewski officiating. He was given the name of Dean Francis. Sponsors were his uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kotecki of Altoona.

Dinner and supper guests at the Szczech home for the occasion were the Kotecki’s and their sons, Greg, Don and Brian, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Szczech and Mr. George Ogurek.

Bio: Kowalowski, Sally – Crowned Miss Withee Belle (26 Jul 1975)

On Saturday evening Sally Kowalowski, escorted by Ronald Konieczny, was crowned Miss Withee Belle, to succeed Nancy German. Other queen candidates were Diane Johnson, Peggy Nosko and Kathy Germany. The three young ladies are all considered first runners-up and have the opportunity to serve in the absence of Miss Withee Belle in making public appearances. Each of the four were showered with gifts from the area merchants.

The two-day celebration of Withee Community Days brought merry guests to the area for the big parade on Sunday afternoon, followed by the softball game with the State Bank of Withee defeating Jump River Rose’s with a score of 9 to 2.

Mr. and Mrs. Duane Olson, Greenwood, attended a national meeting of agricultural and cooperative leaders July 28 – 31, 1975 at Michigan State University.

They were among 200 young farmer couple from across the nation who participated in the American Institute of Cooperation’s 50th Anniversary National Institute on Cooperative Education.

Ignatius Przybylski, 84, died Monday evening at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, August 14th, 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Burial will be make in St. Hedwig’s New Cemetery.

The children of John, Ted, Arlton, and Peter Slowiak, and Anna (Slowiak) Symbal held their first family reunion Saturday, July 36, 1975 at St. Mary’s Czestochowa (Junction) Church Hall. Peter Slowiak, one of the surviving brothers of Stanley was an honored guest. His brother, Joe of Mesa, Arizona was unable to attend. The only sister, Anna Symbal was a patient at Victory Memorial Hospital.
