Mr. Scidmore was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Dorchester, to Abner and Eleanore (Funk) Scidmore. Herb graduated from Dorchester High School in 1947 and entered the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1952. In 1957, Mr. Scidmore received his B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls and his master's degree from UW-Madison in 1964 followed shortly by his Certification in Administration.

On Sept. 24, 1949, Herbert was united in marriage to the former Kathleen Stange at St. Anthony's Rectory in Athens. After their marriage, Herb was an instructor for the Abbotsford School District, teaching agriculture, biology and industrial arts. In 1964, he was promoted to superintendent of the school district. After serving in this position for two years, Mr. Scidmore took the position of director of student services at the UW-Marshfield/Wood County. Herb held this position until his retirement in 1990.

Mr. Scidmore was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served many years as an elder and deacon. He was also a member of the Eagles, Elks and VFW. Herbert enjoyed hobby farming, golfing, playing sheepshead with his friends, his garden and going to the cottage on Squirrel Lake in Minocqua. His greatest joy though, was spending time with his children and grandchildren and most recently, his great-granddaughter.

Herb is lovingly survived by his wife, Kathleen, Marshfield; children, Debbie (Mark) Heyerdahl, Turtle Lake, Robert (Roxanne) Scidmore, Menominee, Linda (Mark) Grassl, Waunakee, David (Jayne) Scidmore, Onalaska, and Jill (Rob) Schulz, Marshfield. Mr. Scidmore is further survived by 13 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and one sister, Catherine Gilbertson of San Gabriel, Calif.

Preceding Herb in death were his parents; a son, James who died in 1979; and seven brothers and sisters, Henry, Fred, Robert, Gladys, Ruth, Gertrude and Evie.
