Syth, Evelyn J. (10 SEP 1931 - 21 MAY 2006)

Evelyn J. Syth, 74, Marshfield, formerly of Loyal, died peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Angelus Retirement Communities following a 2 1/2-year battle with cancer. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, from 4-8 p.m. at Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, and from 9:30 a.m., on Thursday, May 25, at St Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. The Rev. Charles D. Stoetzel will officiate. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Doug Alexander, Keith Gregorich, Joe Roth, Duane Brueseth, Delmaine Schwellenbach, and Craig Smith.

Evelyn Jane Shupe was born on Sept. 10, 1931, in Loyal, to Lee and Verna (nee Domine) Shupe. She was educated at St. Anthony’s Catholic School and then attended Loyal Public School. She married Richard Syth on April25, 1959. He passed away on May 6, 1994. She loved canning, traveling, gardening, and baking. She worked for St. Mary’s School, Greenwood, as a cook for 25 years. She also did cleaning for many local businesses and spent many hours donating her time.. Her most precious time was spent loving her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the Red Hat Society, making blankets, crocheting and collecting angels. She greatly enjoyed watching sports and events of her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and their St. Ann’s Society and was also a member of St. John’s Catholic Church during her time in Marshfield. She was a member of the Greenwood American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children, Judith (Mark) Shain, Greenwood, Pat (Jeff) Westby, Stanley, and Chris (Tom) Roth, Loyal; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Shupe, Stratford; one sister, Mary Ann (Toots) Prime, Marshfield; and her sister-in-law, Marjorie Shupe, Arizona.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Richard; three brothers, Edward, Donald, and Lawrence; and one sister in infancy, Joanne Marie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name will be given to the Catholic schools of Loyal and Greenwood. Her family would like to graciously thank Dr. Reding, his nurses and staff in the oncology department and the doctors and nurses on 8 North at Saint Joseph’s Hospital. The care they gave and the friendship they extended will always be remembered.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, is assisting the family with arrangements.
