Teatz, Maggie (12 May 1869 - 9 June 1937)

The community was shocked and saddened last Wednesday evening, June 9th, by the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Maggie Miller Teatz, age 68. She had gone to the bed-side of her husband, Robert Teatz, who had recently undergone an operation at the Granton Clinic, and while there in the room, surrounded by loved ones, heard, and answered the call to the life beyond.

Mrs. Teatz was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, May 12, 1869. Her mother having passed away when she was about a child, she was adopted into the home of the Arbulus Hartson family of the Town of Grant. There, under the helpful ministry of a good home, she grew to womanhood.

April 18, forty-five years ago, she was married to Robert Teatz of the town of Lynn. For nineteen years they resided on a farm in that township, after which they sold that farm and purchased another in the Town of York. Following a brief residence in the village of Granton, they moved to their York farm where they have continued to reside for the past twenty six years.

Mrs. Teatz was a lover of home, a faithful wife and a good mother. For many years she has been a member of the York Center Methodist Church, having joined this church by letter of transfer in 1920. Here she has worshiped and labored ever since. She served for several years as Superintendent of the Sabbath School, and also for a number of years as Treasurer of the Ladies Aid Society.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Teatz, a daughter, Mrs. Mable Voight and her husband R. Voight, and a son Royal and his wife, all of the Town of York. Two other children died in infancy and the elder son, Arthur, passed away July 9, 1918.

"There is a day of sunny rest, grief may abide an evening guest, for every dark and troubled night; but joy shall come with morning light.

For God has marked each sorrowing day. And numbered every secret tear, and haven’s long age of bliss shall pay for all his children suffer here." -- Wm. Gullen Byrant.

The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the home and two o’clock at York Center M. E church. Rev. Raymond J. *Flenning pastor, officiating. *Surname could be spelled wrong as the copy was blurred.

The pallbearers were R. A. Zick**, H. F. Grosnick, Chas. Buddinger, Nowel Turner, W. E. Benedict, and Walter *****.
