Fritsch, Myron J. (Retires – 1 June 1975)

Myron J. Fritsch, widely-known Clark County educator, will retire at the close of the current school year after 40 years in the teaching profession.

Presently the elementary school principal, supervisor and curriculum coordinator in the Owen-Withee School system, he is a 1935 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, with a bachelor of science degree in biological science and social studies.

He started his teaching career in his hometown of Spencer at a salary of $75 per month as seventh-eighth grade teacher, principal of grades and high school coach. During his service in Spencer, Fritsch had two of his own brothers as students. One, Robert, now is assistant principal in the Sun Prairie School system, and the other, James, is a superintendent of schools at Highland.

In 1944 Fritsch moved to Medford, where he served as social studies teacher in the high school, as a junior high football and basketball coach. At the close of the first semester, however, he accepted a position as high school principal, coach and social studies teacher at Withee.

With the consolidation of the Owen and Withee school systems, Fritsch became junior high school administrator, grade school supervisor and curriculum coordinator.

During vacations he attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he earned a master’s degree in administration.

In November 1963 he became superintendent of the Owen-Withee School system. He remained in this position for five years, then he accepted a position as elementary principal, grade supervisor and curriculum coordinator in the same system.

He married the former Evelyn Dumbleton of Stevens Point. They have three daughters, all born while the family lived in Spencer, Mrs. T. R. (Jacqueline) Johnson of Merrill, Mrs. C. J. (Barbara) Stansberry of Germantown, and Mrs. W. J. (Sandra) Linn of West Allis. There are three granddaughters.

Fritsch was honored at an Owen-Withee retirement dinner May 7. He will be an honored guest at the annual spring teacher’s cookout at the Owen Withee Country Club May 14; and at a public open house to be given in the Owen-Withee High School gymnasium Sunday, June 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. A special program will be held at 2:15 p.m.
