Elmer, Marlene A. (8 OCT 1935 – 2 JUL 2019)

Marlene A. Elmer, 83, Greenwood, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 2, 2019. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiated and burial followed in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons: Brandon Elmer, Justin Eskildsen, John Wendland, Sam Wendland, Luke Schiferl and Aaron Schiferl.

Marlene Ann Kramer was born on Oct. 8, 1935, in Wisconsin Rapids, to Charles B. and Edna M. (nee Severt) Kramer. She was raised on the family farm in rural Loyal, and received her education in the Loyal area, graduating from Loyal High School in 1953. After completing high school, Marlene moved to Milwaukee and went to work as a secretary for Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company. She married Thomas F. Elmer on Oct. 22, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenwood. They took over Tom’s family farm in the town of Warner, where they farmed and raised their family. In 1985, they sold the farm to their son, Bruce. Besides farming, Marlene also worked at the Greenwood Co-op, Greenwood Milk Products in the cheese store, Mid-Am Dairy, ADS, and in the deli at Mayville’s Market. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal and its TLCW, where she was active in the quilt-making group. She was a former member of the Loyal Circle 8 Square Dancers, and the Come-n-Know and Lone Pine Homemakers clubs. Marlene had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family and friends, camping, fishing, playing cards, gardening, traveling, snowmobiling, being outdoors and farming, and she loved animals.

She will be dearly missed by her children: Barbara (Tim) Wendland of Green Bay, Bruce (Jo) Elmer of Greenwood, Rhonda (Arlen) Eskildsen of Loyal, and Darla (Randy) Schiferl of Hewitt; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother: Charles Jr. (Janet) Kramer of Canton, S.D.; two sisters: Carolyn (Doug) Larson of Willard, and Delores Martin of Marshfield; one brother-in-law: Wayne Winter of Watertown; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom, on Nov. 27, 2016; and one sister, Jane Winter.

Marlene’s family would like to thank her caregivers - Dawn Jacobson, Velora Roehl, and the Ascension Home Care Hospice staff — for the kindness, compassion and loving care that they gave to her these last few months.
