Anding, Oscar (17 June 1855 - 14 Dec. 1936)

Oscar Anding was born in Leipzig, Germany, June 17, 1855. He died at the Neillsville Hospital, Dec. 14, 1936, at the age of 81 years, five months and 28 days. He had been in poor health for some years, and his strength gradually failed. He had been confined to his bed only the last week.

He grew to manhood in his native land where he was married to Johana Frederika Sturze, in Lindeman, July 24, 1881. One week after their marriage, they left Germany for the United Sates of America, and took up their residence in St. Louis, Mo., where they remained for five years. From there they came to Wisconsin and settled on a pioneer farm in the Town of Lynn, Clark County. Gradually through years of labor this property was transformed into a splendid farm home. In 1920 they moved to Chili where they lived until the death of his wife in 1932. Since that time he has lived among his children. It is interesting to note that Mr. and Mrs. Anding celebrated their golden wedding anniversary only a few months before the home was disrupted by death.

Father and mother Anding were the parents of nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Five sons and two daughters survive. There are, Frank of Lynn, Richard of Altoona, Elsie, now Mrs. Sherman Gress of Neillsville, Charles and Otto of Lynn, Helen, now Mrs. Adna Harrisman of Chili, and Alfred of Marshfield, all these within the state of Wisconsin. He also leaves 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Anding was a man of sterling character. He was always a hard worker, industrious and honest. He had the good will and respect of those who knew him and he delighted in his family. He was reared in the Faith of the German Lutherans, and ever sought to live in a Christian way. His passing leaves a lonesome place in many a heart.

Funeral services were held Thursday, afternoon, Dec. 17, from the Schiller Funeral Home in Neillsville, and from the Union Church at Granton, conducted by Rev. E. P. Stone of the Neillsville M. E. Church. The body was laid to rest in the Lynn Cemetery.

Six grandsons acted as pallbearers: Arthur Gress, Herman Hagedorn, Orris Anding, Warren Anding, George Anding and Frank Anding.
