Degen, Wilhelmina ( 9 FEB 1854 - 28 MAY 1936)

Mrs. Wm. Degen, 82, resident of Loyal and vicinity since 1875 died of old age complications at 9:45 A.M. Thursday at her home in the village.

Mrs. Degen, nee Wilhelmina Muetzelburg, was born in Blankenburg, Germany, and came to America at the age of 15 years.

She was married to Wm. Degen, April 1, 1872 at Sheboygan. After their marriage they lived at Sheboygan for three years and then came to Clark County and settled on a farm near Loyal where they made their home for 35 years. On this farm were born most of their children. They moved to the village in 1910. Mr. Degen preceded her in death several years ago. After her husband’s death she moved into a little home near her daughter Mrs. August Witt and her she lived until death called her.

Seven children survive their mother; Frank, West Allis; August, Burlington; Herman, Fred, Mrs. Elmer Shupe and Mrs. August Witt, all of Loyal; and Albert, New Hampshire. A sister, Mrs. Hannah Leonhardt, Medford, 17 grand children and 9 great grand children also survive.

Mrs. Degen was a charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Loyal and funeral services were conducted at that church Monday P.M. at 2 o’clock with Rev. H. F. Leschensky officiating. Miss Mavis Berg sang the beautiful old hymn "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."

Mrs. Degen was buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery.

She was a quiet home-loving person, her principal interests in life being her home, her family, and her church.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Mr. August Degen, Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Degen and daughters lilas and Elva, West Allis; Mrs. Arnold Paepke, Milwaukee; and Mrs. Hannah Leonhardt and daughter and daughter-in-law, Medford.

Flowers were in charge of Mrs. George Schoch and Mrs. Frank Luchterhand. The pall bearers were Mr. Frank Luchterhand, Mr. Wm. Loppnow, Mr. John Loppnow, Mr. Ed. Haslow, Mr. Oscar Ratzburg, and Mr. Gust Voight.
