Welch, Bridget (2 MAY 1821 - 7 AUG 1913)

Bridget, the beloved wife of John Welch, died at her home in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), this Thursday morning, Aug. 7th, 1913, at 1 o’clock, aged 92 years, 3 months and 5 days.

Bridget Ward was born in the Parish of Meath Hill, County Meath, Ireland, May 2nd, 1821. She was married to John Welch 50 years ago last Candlemas Day, and with her husband came to America in April 1870, locating in Montgomery Co., Maryland. In 1873 they came to Clark County, and settled on a piece of land in the town of Mayville, near Abbotsford, where they continued to live until about five years ago, when they sold the farm and came to Colby to reside. No children were born to them. Besides her heartbroken husband, she leaves several relatives and hosts of friends to mourn her death.

She was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. She was not only faithful to her church, but just as faithful in believing that it was her duty to do the will of her Master at all times. It is difficult to pay a fitting tribute to the memory of so noble a woman. We can only join with the many friends in extending to the bereaved husband our deepest sympathy.

The funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Saturday morning, at 9:30 o’clock, Rev. H.J. Artmann officiating.
