Mayer, Anthony J. (10 JUL 1940 - 2 MAR 2006)

Anthony J. Mayer, 65, Thorp, formerly of Greenwood, died on Thursday, March 2, 2006, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 6, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairview (rural Fairchild). The Rev. David Ziegelmaier officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery. His nephews served as pall bearers.

Anthony John Mayer was born on July 10, 1940, in Black River falls, to Tony and Georgia (nee Giles) Mayer. He was raised on the family farm and educated in the town of Mentor. After completing hid education, he lived and worked on the family farm. After the death of his father, 1n 1976, he cared for his mother until her death in 1988. He then moved to Greenwood, where he worked at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen, for Adult Development Service in Greenwood. He later worked at Adult Development Service’s Greenwood facility. In August of 2003, he moved to the Robert and Ann Lewandowski farm, in the town of Resberg, where he resided until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood, and was a member of the Family Group at Adult Development Service in Greenwood. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed polka music, taking pictures, collecting various items and gardening.

He will be sadly missed by four sisters, Louise Genteman, Marshfield, Dorothy (Bernard) Laufenberg, Alma Center, Marie (Bernard) Kaiser, Loyal, and Lorraine (Jeff) Rayhorn, Long Prairie, Minn.; one brother, Norman (Donna) Mayer, Bangor; nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
