Wartmann, Henry (1840? - 21 NOV 1910)

Henry Wartmann, one of our old settlers, died at Wm. Schulz Hotel, where he has made is home for the past two years, on Monday night, Nov. 21st, 1910, of dropsy.

Mr. Wartmann was born in Germany about 70 years ago, his exact age is not known, and spent his boyhood and youth there. He came to this country in 1870, and five years later came to Colby and settled on a farm in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., where he resided with his family until in the early part of the ‘80’s when he went to the iron mines at Bessemer, leaving his family on the farm. When he returned a few years later he made this city his home, working at his trade, that of mason. He had been in poor health the past year and only able to do little odd jobs. His wife is dead; two sons and three daughters are still living, but their residence is not known. He was a very peculiar man and would never talk about himself or children, and left no papers giving their address.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon, and the remains interred in Colby Cemetery.

Responses

I want to thank you for posting a obituary for Henry Wartman on the Clark County obituary page.  I have been looking for thirty some years for this gentleman.  He was my great grandfather on my fathers. side.  My grandmother was one of his daughters.  I was wondering if you know if the other Wartman's in the area were related to him.  Pat Aune
