Otterson, Chris (1874 - 23 SEP 1928)

Funeral services were held this afternoon for Chris Otterson, 54-year-old bachelor farmer who ended his life Sunday evening shortly after 7 o’clock by shooting himself through the heart with a .22 caliber rifle. The Rev. Wilson Mallory, Granton, Clark Co., Wis., officiated at the service at the farm home, and at the burial in Lynn Cemetery. The pallbearers were William Albrecht, Fred Grottke, Leo Kleinshchmidt, Emil Lindow, Carl Zais, and Carl Renne.

Mr. Otterson, who was born in Denmark, near Nyberg, immigrated to America in 1911 and settled on a farm near Tyler, Minn., where Mrs. Letty Tjaden, a widow with three small children, came to his home to act as housekeeper. In 1920 they accompanied him to their present home in the town of Lynn west of Lindsey.

Recently he became despondent, it is claimed, although to his neighbors he was apparently the same. Sunday evening he went to his room on the second floor of the house, and just as Mrs. Tjaden was leaving the place with a friend, they heard a shot. Summoning a neighbor before re-entering the house, the party investigated the cause of the report, and found the lifeless body. Dr. Wink of Granton was immediately summoned and pronounced death due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No inquest was deemed necessary.

Mr. Otterson is survived by a mother and three sisters in Denmark. He was affiliated with the Danish Brotherhood Society.
