Hendren, Lorinda (9 Feb. 1841 - 1935)

Mrs. Lorinda Hendren nee Wright passed away at the Willis Peacock home, Lancaster, after a brief illness, being at her demise 94 years, six months, and 25 days of age.

Lorinda Wright was a twin born to John and Jane Wright in Jefferon County, Ohio, on Feb. 9, 1841. The family came in an early day to northwester Ohio and located at McComb, where she attended school. Later she was sent to the ladies’ boarding school at Glendale, Ohio.

October 9, 1866, at the age of 25, she was united in marriage with Rev. W. T. Hendren, at the home of her twin sisters in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Directly they went to Cabadonm, Minn., where Rev. Hendren was a Presbyterian minister and remained there for six years.

In 1872, Mr. Hendren was called to Neillsville where he and his wife labored in the Master ?? for 19 years. A church was built during this time and much good was done by them at Neillsville, as well as throughout the country side organizing congregations of which Greenwood was one, where under their guidance a church was built which they served for 29 years.

While in Neillsville they adopted a daughter, Emma, whom they raided to womanhood but who preceded her foster parents in death. Because of her great love for the pastor’s wife, a young mother at her death asked Mrs. Hendren to take into her home her daughter, Edith MacIntyre (Mrs. Willis Peacock) and so Mrs. Hendren became as dear as a mother to Mrs. Peacock who in turn became a faithful and loving daughter, sparing now effort in making her happy.

When the call came to serve in Greenwood, the Hendrens and their two girls a very helpful ministry. Soon the little chapel was too small and a church of God was erected much to the delight of the Hendrens. Mr. Hendren was called home March 20, 1920, while still active in Greenwood.

At his death Mrs. Peacock took Mrs. Hendren into her home where she lived until she passed away. With her gentle Christian philosophy she endeared herself to the Peacock family and they all loved and cared for her as a dear mother and grandmother.

April 16, 1933, Mrs. Hendren became a member of the Lancaster Presbyterian church of which she was a truly sincere member. At her death she leaves to mourn the Willis Peacock family, son-in-law Fred Ball, of Stevens Point, one granddaughter, Mrs. Joyce Brown, of Madison, and one great grandson, John Ball, of Madison, also one sister, Mrs. Nannie Lynn, and children of McComb, Ohio, one niecen, Mrs. Eve Kisinger, of Cedar Rapids, Ia., two nephews, Mr. Elson and Mr. Grant Needles, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa and a host of friends.
