Purgett, Eugene (30 Oct. 1876 - 19 Sept. 1951)

Funeral services for Eugene Purgett, 74, of the town of Hixon, Clark County, were held Monday afternoon, Sept. 24, at 2 o’clock at his home with Rev. A. O. Crosby officiating and burial was made in the Riverside Cemetery at Withee. The deceased passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 19, at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield after an illness of two weeks.

He was born October 30, 1876 in Iroquois County, Illinois. On December 25, 1898 he was married to Maude E. Murphy in Iroquois County, Ill. He farm in Illinois for several years and in 1915 moved to Goodland, Indiana, where he lived for three years. On March 10, 1917 the couple moved to Clark County on a farm which they pioneered and developed.

Surviving besides his wife are the following children: Charles, Owen; Lucy, Mrs. Ormal Austin, Rochester, New York; and Ray, Owen, Wis. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Harl, Woodland, Ill.; Earl, St. Ann, Illinois; George, Woodland, Ill.; Maggie, Mrs. Robert Boughton, Stillwater, Oklahoma; Pearl; Mrs. David Mayo, Owen, Wis. Eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
