Maynard, Priscilla M. (14 MAY 1931 - 8 DEC 2005)

Priscilla Mae Wildish-Maynard, 74, Florence, Texas, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, in Dallas, Texas. A memorial service was held in Texas. Interment was in Hayfield Cemetery, Hatfield.

Priscilla Mae Wildish was born on May 14, 1931, in Milwaukee, the third of four daughters of Hugh Lincoln Wildish and Eulah Catherine Clara Wildish. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin and pursued a career in education, teaching in Wisconsin, Saudi Arabia, California and Texas, with the bulk of her career spent in California schools. She worked as a classroom teacher, reading specialist and language development specialist. She retired from the Fairfield-Suisan Unified School District in 2001. She was a writer, storyteller and lecturer, delivering workshops around the world on integrating folk tales as a tool for language acquisition. She wrote four books published by Scholastic, Incorporated: "A Summer to Remember," "Blind Date," "The Wild Boy of Kermit Woods," and "Mystery of the Old Windmill." She was a member of the International Reading Association, United Kingdom Reading Association, Arabian Reading Association, National Storytelling Association and had status as an Artist in Residence for the state of Texas. She also spent time as a world traveler, musician and pilot.

Survivors include sons, Jim Maynard and wife, Kate, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Tom Maynard and wife, Freda, Florence, Texas; grandchildren, Asa James Maynard, Las Cruces, Jeremy Derington and his wife, Janice, Big Spring, Texas, Jason Derington, Crockett, Texas, Justin Derington, Florence, Catherine Jordon Maynard, Florence; and sisters, Betty Schaper, Alliance, Ohio, and Nancy Youngs, Lansing, Mich.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Eulsh Gene Gilster.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Salvation Army in her honor.
