Peckham, Thomas (1824 - 3 JAN 1898)

Thomas Peckham, one of the most respected citizens of the town of Holeton, Marathon Co., died at his home in that town, Jan. 3rd, 1898. We were unable to get any data, whatever, for an obituary until the present time.

Thomas Peckham was born in England in 1824; came to America and located at Oshkosh in 1855; in Jan. 1865 he enlisted in the 47th Reg’t, Wis. Vol Inf., with which organization he served until the close of the war. In 1872 he located his family on the homestead where he died, the southwest quarter of Section 22, in the town of Holeton, where he has since lived, respected by all who knew him. Besides the many friends and acquaintances left to mourn his demise are his devoted wife, four sons, William and Thomas on the homestead, Bert C. in the state of Washington, Elmer in Minnesota, and one daughter, Mrs. O.N. Glass of South Kaukauna.

The funeral occurred at the house at one o’clock P.M., on Saturday, Jan. 5th, conducted by Rev. S.A. Hoffman, and was largely attended.

Responses

I am wondering if this Thomas was the father of Thomas E. who moved to the state of WA. Thomas E. was perhaps the father of Thomas Edward Peckham b. 1892 in WI, married 1916 in ID to Mary Edwina Thorne, died 1923 & is buried in Shelton, WA.

Mary Edwina Thorne was a daughter of my ancestor Francis Edwin Thorne. If any of this sounds familiar to you I would like to share inf. with you on this line.  Betty Macdonald, emacdonald@media-net.net
