Withee--The body of Arnold C. Vater, 87, formerly of Route 1, Withee, was found about 5:10 p.m. Wednesday along the edge of a Town of Eaton Road about 30 hours after he left the Greenwood Home for the Aged, where he had resided since Monday.

Death was due to natural causes. The investigation revealed that Vater had driven his car on the town road, west of the junction of Highways 73 and 98 and then turned south. It appeared the car became stuck several times, and then became disabled. Vater who used crutches to walk, had gone on foot for almost a half mile, apparently in search for help before he collapsed. The body was discovered by Kelly and Nancy Nobel who had gone out for a walk.

Services for Mr. Vater will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Maurina Funeral Home, Owen, Wis. Kurt Sampson will officiate, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Withee.

Visitation at the Maurina Funeral Home will begin after 6 p.m. Friday.

He was born June 23, 1895, in Plymouth. He and Margaret Richelou were married May 31, 1922. He farmed in the Town of Hixon and was a member of the North Central Wisconsin Steam and Gas Engine Club of Edgar.

Survivors include two brothers, Carl of Withee and Neil F. of Owen; and three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Moody of Madison, Mrs. Alice Jones of Randolph and Mrs. L. N. (Gladys) Woodburn of Clearwater, Fla.

He was predeceased by his wife in 1971.
