Oldham, Erna (14 March 1908 - 18 May 1929)

Mrs. LaFayette (Erna) Oldham passed away at the hospital in Marshfield on Saturday, May 18, 1929, aged 21 years, 2 months and 4 days. She had been ill about six weeks, two weeks of which wee spent in the hospital. Both at home and in the hospital all that medical skill and care could do, were done for her, but of no avail.

Erna Glasow was born in the town of Weston, March 14, 1908, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glasow. She finished rural school and entered Neillsville High School, graduating in the Class of 1925. She taught successfully in rural schools for two years, and was married to LaFayette Oldham of the town of Pine Valley, June 6, 1927. Since their marriage they made their home with her parents on their farm in the town of Weston. As a student in high school, she made a remarkable record, and was much liked by teachers and schoolmates; as a teacher, she was faithful, efficient and popular with pupils and patrons, and in her home and community life, her fine qualities gave her the love and esteem of all who knew her. She was active and helpful in church work; for some years she was the organist in the Globe Lutheran Church. Her early death has cast a gloom over the entire community.

Surviving is her husband, her parents, and two sisters; Mrs. Rudolph Prische of Medford and Mrs. John Strangfeld of Weston; also her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. August Beyer of Weston and other relatives, who deeply mourn her death.

The funeral was held at Globe Lutheran Church, Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. W. Motzkus officiating. The esteem in which Mrs. Oldham was held may well be measured by the number of people who came to pay homage to her memory, as the church was filled to capacity and many could not find the entrance. Burial took place in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
