Kowalczyk, Allen J. (24 APR 1922 - 13 MAY 2014)

Allen J. Kowalczyk, age 92, of Gilman, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at his home with his family by his side, and under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.

Allen was born on April 24, 1922 in the town of Roosevelt, Taylor County, the son of the late Albert and Agnes (Krezel) Kowalczyk.

He grew up in the town of Roosevelt, farmed on the family farm and also did bulldozing work. He also belonged to the Carpenters Union in Illinois for 35 years.

On April 30, 1988, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Wojcik at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Town of Roosevelt Rod and Gun Club, and was an avid deer hunter in his earlier years.

Allen is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Gilman; step-children, Ted (Cindy) Wojcik, Tom Wojcik and Tim (Janet) Wojcik, all of Gilman, Laurie (Bob) Volberg of Cornell, Leslie (Bradley) Cornell of Jump River, Lisa (Morris Larsen) Leech of Gilman and Todd (Christine) Wojcik of Medford; 19 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Kowalczyk of Gilman and Casey (Dolores) Kowalczyk of Illinois; and one sister, Adeline "Pat" Liszewski of Gilman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Walter, Leonard and Robert, and two sisters, Mary Leshuk and Victoria Koperski.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Madanu Sleeva officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Lublin. Visitation will be on Friday Morning at the church from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
